blackforest jazz.
the only underground jazz kissa curated for you. made in japan, from their world to yours.
Hidden underground beneath a local bookstore, Blackforest is a jazz kissa unknown to the world.
Sometimes, the joy of locals sharing secret locations in their city triumphs over the common knowledge of the store itself.
Nestled beneath the local bookstore Falena in the first underground level, Blackforest is a truly unique Japanese jazz kissa stacked with whisky, vinyls, and calmness, providing an intimate and relaxing space designed for deep jazz listening and patient delight.
‘The warm brown identity paired with dusty black is a tribute to the vintage vinyl labels’
Every week, a vinyl selector shares a curated session, playing live records for their gathered audience while the house serves wine, aperitifs, and Japanese whisky. Inspired by the magic of this subterranean ritual, we created a brand identity in warm brown paired with dusty black as a nod to the vintage vinyl labels being played each night.
‘Conveying a digital brand with analogue spirit’
The brand tone and layout evokes its analogue spirit. In a digital world of fleeting trends, Blackforest pursues the creation of a lingering experience. A dimly lit interior, dark tonal colours, and macro photography features on the walls, we focus on small details in an environment built for sound - right down to the heavy, half-rag paper-printed menus.
