Oporto was committed to its 1986 Bondi origins, serving their famous Portuguese style chicken and burgers out of a single hilltop storefront overlooking the beach.
Still uniquely Portuguese with their flame-grilled lemon, garlic, and herbs RSPCA approved chicken, the fresh burst of flavour needed to be visualised from the first moment visitors set eyes on the store. Eye-catching colours, bold illustrations, and a relaxed, comedic signage system to replicate the brand language and demeanour of a truly Aussie beachgoing family ready for a juicy bite of Portuguese flame-grilled chicken.
Wayfinding is crucial. Safety is too. But the tone had to stay.
The best environments are designed to operate without signs. With clear wayfinding systems to direct car and foot traffic across external Oporto locations, it was imperative brand language remained consistent. The chill, Aussie, beachgoing family vibe retained Oporto’s Bondi roots.
Contrasting colours for legible text on large backgrounds ensure visibility with multidirectional vehicular traffic. Restrictions on foot access ensures the drive-thru remains clear, efficient, and accessible by car. Signage and wayfinding forms paths away from pedestrianised Oporto storefronts.
