baton bäckerei.
eat. fresh. bread.
a decade of unsung morning delight.
On the fringes of Ulm’s ‘Altstadt’ (old city), is a new bakery seeking to revitalise the cold German winter mornings.
Bauernbrot, roggenbrot, vollkornbrot; all traditional German bakery staples. Baton Bäckerei needed to honour more than just the product - it had to reflect a daily tradition, a quiet ritual, and a national pride.
The name Baton - a nod to the French breadstick and the idea of passing something down - set the tone for a bakery rooted in legacy, yet open to contemporary interpretation.
The visual direction took shape aroun the early morning bakery atmosphere: muted, monotone grey chosen to represent the soft dusting of flour covering surfaces before sunrise. This restrained base allowed occasional introduction of warm brown accents; evoking the crust of fresh loaves and the scent signalling a morning call.
By balancing minimalism with sensory cues, we shaped a brand identity feeling as honest and essential as the bread it represents.
